Bedworth family raises £3,000 for Mary Garth Ward in memory of beloved local DJ Les Allen

Family and friends came together at Bedworth Liberal Club on 25 April 2026 to honour the memory of much-loved local DJ Les Allen, raising an incredible £3,000 for Mary Garth Ward at George Eliot Hospital.

Organised by Les’s son Robert and grandson Scott, the special fundraising evening featured a race night held in association with Bedworth & Nuneaton CCFC Supporters Club, followed by a disco with Robert taking to the decks in tribute to his father.

Les was well known across the local community for his long career as a DJ. Over the years, he was a resident DJ at Bedworth Liberal Club and Oakridge Golf Club and created countless happy memories for families and friends across the area. Music was a huge part of Les’s life and he even had the honour of DJ-ing at four of his grandchildren’s weddings.

Les sadly passed away on 25 April 2025 after spending just over 11 weeks on Mary Garth Ward, where his family say he received wonderful care and support.

The family decided to organise the fundraising evening exactly one year after his passing as a way of saying thank you to the ward staff while celebrating Les’s life and passion for music.

Robert said: “Dad loved entertaining people and bringing everyone together through music, so holding a race night and disco in his memory felt like the perfect tribute. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came along, donated and supported the event. Raising £3,000 for Mary Garth Ward means so much to our family.”

The funds raised will help George Eliot Hospital Charity continue supporting patients and staff on Mary Garth Ward, helping to enhance care and provide additional comforts for patients and their loved ones.

George Eliot Hospital Charity would like to thank Robert, Scott, Bedworth & Nuneaton CCFC Supporters Club, Bedworth Liberal Club and everyone who supported the event in memory of Les.
