The Camino de Santiago, or The Way of St James, is one of the world’s oldest and most celebrated pilgrimage routes. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has welcomed millions of pilgrims over the centuries, each walking in search of faith, adventure, personal reflection, or cultural discovery. The iconic scallop shell, found along the Galician coastline, has become the enduring symbol that guides pilgrims on their journey.
While many people refer to “the Camino” as a single route, it is actually a network of nine historic pilgrimage paths, beginning in Spain, France and Portugal. Every route leads to the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, northern Spain, believed to be the final resting place of the apostle St James.
During the Middle Ages, pilgrims would leave from their own front doors and walk across Europe to Santiago de Compostela as an act of devotion and penance. Today, the Camino continues to attract people from around the world, each with their own personal reason for undertaking this unforgettable journey.
Walking the Camino is about far more than reaching the destination. Along the way, you’ll discover picturesque villages, historic churches and chapels, ancient monuments, and welcoming local communities. The route winds through peaceful forests, rolling vineyards, open countryside, and charming market towns, offering ever-changing scenery and countless moments to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty of northern Spain.
Whether you are seeking a personal challenge, spiritual renewal, or simply an unforgettable adventure, the Camino de Santiago promises a truly life-changing experience.
