A new keyboard, kindly donated by Maureen Ashmore and her family via George Eliot Hospital Charity, is helping to transform the popular Singing for Breathing sessions for respiratory patients and those experiencing breathlessness at George Eliot Hospital.
The gift honours Maureen’s late husband, Keith Ashmore, a much-loved respiratory patient who lived with COPD and attended the sessions with Maureen. Keith spent many years under the care of George Eliot Hospital staff and always spoke warmly of them.
At the relaunch of the sessions, Maureen and her son Andrew joined fellow patients to see the keyboard in action, played by vocal lead Andrew Ella.

Maureen said:
“The keyboard has made a huge difference. It feels like a proper singalong with friends rather than a patient class. Attendance has grown, and it’s wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves. This is a fitting tribute to Keith, who loved the staff here and would be so pleased to make a difference to other respiratory patients .”
Lisa Taylor, COPD Clinical Nurse Specialist, added:
“This generous gift from Maureen and her family will continue to enhance the sessions now and in the future, creating lasting benefits for our patients.” For more information about Singing for Breathing, visit Singing for breathing :: George Eliot Hospital
