Donation Honours Uncle’s Memory with Contribution Towards New Hospital Chair

A contribution from Tracey Donohue-Bowman, her family and friends has provided a lasting tribute to her late uncle, Garry Knowles, at George Eliot Hospital.

Their generosity went towards funding a Boston Electric waterfall back reclining patient armchair for Dorothea Ward, where Garry received treatment for bowel cancer.

Tracey shared that her uncle was deeply grateful for the care he received, particularly from Dr Scott-Brown and Vickie Trory, who supported him throughout his treatment.

Not only did Tracey visit the ward, but Garry’s wider family also came along to see the chair. Garry was brother to Maureen, brother-in-law to Betty, and cousin to Jimmy and Penny — all of whom joined Tracey in honouring his memory and recognising the care he received.

“The whole family cannot praise the staff on Dorothea Ward enough,” Tracey said. “They were all amazing right from his very first appointment, and the care and compassion continued throughout his time at George Eliot Hospital. We are very grateful for the opportunity to visit and see the chair, knowing this will be a lasting tribute to my wonderful Uncle.”

Maria Holmes-Keeling, Fundraising Coordinator for George Eliot Hospital Charity, said: “It was lovely to meet the family and show them how their contribution has supported the purchase of this chair. Thank you for your kind gift, which will help support cancer patients for many years to come at George Eliot Hospital.”
